New Zealand

New Zealand a whirlwind adventure

New zealand, its a place which makes your jaw drop.

Home to some of the world finest scenery and produce.

After nearly 8 years we finally returned to this beautiful place. I didn’t think it would of been this long but life just passes by.

For us it was a whirlwind adventure, full of reunions, revisiting places, getting engaged and ticking off a few more hikes.

We spent 10 days on each island. This time just wizzed by. But was a good amount for us to revisit places and catch up with friends.

We flew direct from Brisbane to Auckland a duration of 3 hours. Auckland being one of the biggest cities its quickly growing and has the biggest airport.

We spent several days just outside of the centre staying with a close friend. In the beautiful coastal suburb of mission bay. A lovely buzzing area full of cafes restaurants and a great coastal walk.

Fron here we took a short flight to Christchurch where we hired a vehicle for 8 days, this gave us freedom to travel and explore at our own pace. We spent the first days, revisiting the beautiful area of akeroa 70kms outside of christchurch.

Its a beautiful French settlement situated in the lush green rolling hills beside the ocean. The place hadnt really changed but definitely had a lot more tourism. From here we took the scenic route towards lake tekapo towards Queenstown.

With some of the most breathtaking views you could spend a lot of the time stopping and taking in the scenery.

We based ourselves in Queenstown for several days. This being a special place where Markus and I met nearly 8 years ago. We spent our days hiking , eating lots food. A trip to qt wouldn’t be without a ferg burger.

It will hold a memorable moment as we decided to hike Ben lommen the highest peak in the region, a 16km alpine hike. This is where Markus proposed to me. It was an utter surprise.

It felt surreal to be back, but it didnt feel quite the same. Tourism has boomed a great deal in this small country making things extremely expensive and busy. Despite being out of the main season. A lot of accommodation was fully booked. Definitely a word of advice to book ahead in this area.

We enjoyed our days mainly hiking, i also surpised my bosses i worked for. It was lovely to catch up.

We did both enjoy a trip to the coastal town of timaru, being open minded. Didnt really know what to expect but it actually was a lovely seaside town with some beautiful properties and lovely beaches.

From christchurch we relocated a campervan to picton which was incredible. It gave us a taste of camper life. From here we took the interislander ferry to Wellington. Travelling through the Marlborough sounds. It offers breathtaking views.

Arriving into Wellington we stayed a long weekend with another close friend. Wellington offers such a great vibe and plenty of choice when it comes to eating out.the museum Te papa is also always worth a visit. Being free ir provides a great few hours to fill.

From here we decided to catch a bus to the town of Lake Taupo where we planned to complete the tongario crossing .

This had been on ny bucket list since the first time. More determined this time round. 5am start we booked a mini bus to drop us in the national park. Being a one way hike ita recommend to book a shuttle bus.

Offering increible views of the volcano mt doom and all the turquoise lakes. We experienced beautiful weather and completed the 19.5km hike in a good time.

From here we decided to travel back to Auckland, we did a road trip to the beach town of Raglan. Very similiar to a quirt Byron bay. This was where Markus old bosses are situated now.

Overall it was a lovely trip back, we experience the most perfect weather, hikes over 100kms tasted some real good coffee and got to see some good friends again.
